I grew up believing that the relationship we have with others, like the number of friends, perfect love partner etc. is the ultimate key to living a content life, but eventually, I’ve realized the relationship I share with myself is the essence of how happy I will be as I move through life.
While we hold the key to our own happiness, why is it that almost every time, it seems like an unreachable goal? Why is it so difficult to be comfortable with ourselves and accept ourselves for who we are, rather than searching for external means?
As we grow the world presents us with the idea of who we should be, what we should look like, molding us in ways in which our life revolves around less important things and ignoring the real deal i.e. being at ease with ourselves.
After all, we can become the best version of ourselves only when we become comfortable in our own skin. So here are some ways in which we can reach our authentic and assured selves.
RESPECT YOUR BODY
It’s important to love, feed, exercise, and care for your body, so that your body can perform its best. Understanding what your body needs and appreciating yourself without idealizing a prototype; is an ideal way in which you can go about living through life.
FIND A PASSION
When you get to know yourself well, you will know what makes you come alive. It’s crucial to respect and protect it as it defines your happy self and sets limits and boundaries of who you really are. So it’s pointless following the crowd as you may be heading in the totally opposite direction to where your heart really lies. Your passion can be as simple as admiration for art, being a social butterfly or a keenness for music.
EXPLORE THE WORLD
Sometimes we tend to settle down in familiar, safe and known places. We also do the same with people, it’s these people who actually shape us and tell us who we are, give us our identity.
ASSOCIATE WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE POSITIVE
If you ever find yourself bound to people or in relationships which make you feel stagnant, stuck or unhappy for some reason, the best thing to do is to rethink, change or let go.
While it may seem wise to hold on to the time invested, it’s also important to tactfully walk away when friendships and relationships cloud the ability for us to see who we really are. There are several opportunities waiting but first, we need to disentangle ourselves from the ones that will never lead to progress.
The most beautiful people are those that embrace and wear their flaws with confidence. It’s so very important to love yourself with those imperfections just to reach your perfect self. So own your unique looks, body type, talent and lifestyle and everything positive just follows.
Finding ourselves and being comfortable with our own skin can be liberating and rewarding and can indeed lead to a great foundation on which other amazing and authentic moments, decisions, and relationships can follow.
