How are you all doing? Are you ready for the festive season? I love Diwali, it is one of the biggest festivals of India. This ‘Festival of Lights’ is a fun-filled time, with colorful decoration, diyas to light up the place and beautiful rangoli designs. All this calls for a perfect Diwali Outfit, bold on colors and high on accessories. To create my Diwali outfit I decided to go back to my roots, I started by doing an in-depth research on the traditional handloom KUNBI saree, which was worn by Goan tribal Kunbi women before the Portuguese rule in the 16th century. This beautiful graphic drape in red checks is almost extinct mostly due to caste discrimination.
Many designers have tried to revive this, as it is the only symbol of Goa’s weaving heritage. The more I learned about it the more I fell in love especially with the quality of the saree. So I decided to use this as the principal piece to craft a very modern indo western attire.
I constructed a three-piece outfit choosing a combination of primary color fabrics.
Pants inspired by the kashta drape made out of the kunbi saree.
Teamed with a loose fit crop top paired with a transparent band collar cover.
I further styled the outfit by accessorizing with a mastani nose ring to give it a more Indian edgy look.
I am so in love with my look, especially with my Kunbi Kashta pants, I can team it up easily with other pieces from my wardrobe to create different styles. It gives me a feeling of being closer to my roots, free of the codes that make us lose such amazing symbols of our culture.
Hope you enjoyed this article, let me know in comments what you think about it and how you guys enjoying Diwali 😉
